Charles Wilson steps down from Tesco role
Wilson will continue to lead Booker as he recovers from illness
Charles Wilson has stepped down as CEO of Tesco UK and Ireland following a diagnosis of throat cancer. He will continue to lead the Booker business, focusing on cost synergies and the growth agenda set out in the merger agreement.
Wilson will also step down from the Tesco PLC board but will remain on the Tesco Executive Committee.
Tesco issued a statement: “Following an operation to remove his tonsils in April of this year, Charles Wilson was diagnosed with throat cancer. During May and June, he has been undergoing daily radiotherapy.”
Wilson has reportedly responded well to treatment and all the signs are that it has been successful.
We wish Charles a full and speedy recovery.
