FareShare UK launches manifesto ahead of General Election

FareShare UK, the UK’s biggest charity fighting hunger and food waste, has launched its manifesto ahead of the General Election on Thursday 4th July

Called ‘Where’s the Food? Strengthening Communities Through Surplus Food Redistribution’, the manifesto calls on the next government to commit to delivering more surplus food to those in need.

FareShare UK is calling for:

  • Subsidies for farmers to cover redistribution costs
  • Tax benefits for businesses donating surplus food
  • Mandatory food waste reporting
  • Clear guidelines for ‘good Samaritans’ on food donation safety
  • Sustained funding for farm level food redistribution
  • A UK-wide plan to end charitable food aid
  • Resources for local food waste and food security projects

The charity’s proposals have been developed in consultation with charities, food industry leaders, and academics.
