Diversity and inclusion: Support for the ‘sheds’
Diageo joins forces with UK Men’s Sheds Association charity to help reduce loneliness and isolation
As part of its commitment to promote moderation and responsible drinking and address areas of alcohol-related harm, Diageo has joined forces with a leading men’s charity.
Launched more than a decade ago, the UK Men’s Sheds Association runs a network of more than 1,100 ‘sheds’ nationwide. These aim to reduce loneliness among men by encouraging them to take part in activities, share skills and meet others.
Around 33,000 people use the charity’s services each week, with men aged over 55 among its main users. This age group has been found to be one of the groups most likely to drink at harmful levels, consuming between 14 and 50 units of alcohol per week.*
PARTNERSHIP
In partnership with Diageo, UK Men’s Sheds Association will develop a programme to encourage alcohol moderation. This will be delivered later this year via Diageo’s own responsible drinking initiative called DRINKiQ.
Diageo GB Managing Director Nuno Teles (pictured above, left) welcomed the partnership with the charity: “By partnering together, we aim to expand their impactful work by improving men’s wellbeing and raising awareness about alcohol moderation,” he said.
“Together, we want to empower individuals and create more connected communities. Having visited the Men’s Shed in Camden, I have seen the positive impact these spaces have in nurturing a sense of purpose and belonging within the community.”
