European wholesaler joins UK buying group

The Country Range Group has welcomed Europ Foods, its first foodservice wholesale member from mainland Europe

Based in Spain, Europ Foods, which was established in 1987, will join the Group from 1 October 2024 and will become the Group’s 15th member.

This move will see Europ Foods become the first company to benefit from CRG’s buying power, promotions, data, insight and marketing campaigns in international markets.

The foodservice wholesaler was set up by entrepreneurs Johan van Barneveld and Robert van Barneveld to supply the growing number of chefs, cooks and foodservice operators catering to the flourishing Mediterranean coastal tourist trade in the late 1980s and 1990s.

With an annual turnover of £60m, Europ Foods has 200 team members including a multilingual salesforce and a network of offices, depots and partners supplying some of the busiest tourist destinations on the Spanish coast from Huelva to Barcelona, Portugal’s Algarve, the Balearics and the Canary Islands.

“The Country Range Group has been a driving force in wholesale these past few years so we’re excited to be part of the family,” said Robert van Barneveld, managing director, Europ Foods.

“The Group’s clear vision, strategy, buying power and product portfolio will ensure we continue to improve as a business, grow and reach our ambitious targets in the years to come.”

Country Range Group chairman Philip de Ternant said: “We are extremely proud that Europ Foods have taken the strategic decision to join our fabulous group and expand its product offering to their growing Spanish and Portuguese customer base. We all wish them continued success and look forward to supporting them every step on their journey.”

Martin Ward, chief executive, CRG, agreed: “With nearly 40 years of experience supplying the coastal treasures of the Mediterranean and its islands, Europ Foods has a fantastically diverse customer base and a formidable reputation for first-rate customer service. We’re confident that we can help them achieve their future goals and in return, it’s exciting to be able to take our high quality three-tiered Country Range portfolio into new international territories.”
