Lomond becomes a certified B Corporation
Lomond: The Wholesale Food Co gains B Corp certification, becoming the first Scottish food wholesaler and only the third food wholesaler in the UK to achieve this recognition
Verified by B Lab, the non-profit organisation behind the B Corp movement, this certification highlights the family business’s commitment to the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability, alongside its dedication to balancing profit with purpose.
As the climate crisis and increasing social inequality continue to present urgent challenges, B Corp certification assesses the full scope of a company’s operations, including governance, workers, community, the environment, and customers. The certification process is rigorous, requiring businesses to provide evidence of their positive impact while embedding a commitment to these values into their legal structure.
Anne McDonald, Lomond’s director of technical and health & safety, said: “The journey to B Corp certification reflects the dedication of the Lomond team and together we have achieved this remarkable accomplishment. The result is not just a testament to the skills and hard work of all the team, but of Lomond’s unwavering commitment to be better in all aspects of our business.
“We are honoured to be part of the B Corp family and look forward to a positive future of continual improvement bringing benefit to our people, the community and the planet.”
In addition to its dedication to sustainability, Lomond is proud to source local and sustainable ingredients for its extensive product range. By collaborating with local farmers and suppliers, Lomond aims to reduce its environmental footprint and contribute to the growth of its local economies. This commitment is complemented by its partnership with Cake, the manufacturing company owned by Lomond, which also achieved B Corp certification.
“Together, we are advancing a shared mission of promoting food sustainability and ethical practices across the supply chain,” said Sam Henderson, Lomond managing director. “The ethos and thinking behind this global standard align with our own views on being a profitable business that also upholds its social and environmental responsibilities. We will continue to develop best practice in social governance, employee wellbeing and environmental sustainability.
Lomond: The Wholesale Food Co. is now part of a growing community of more than 9,500 businesses globally that have achieved B Corp certification. The B Corp movement in the UK is one of the largest and fastest-growing, with more than 2,400 companies spanning various industries, including The Guardian, Innocent Drinks, Patagonia, Tony’s Chocolonely, and Finisterre.
Lomond’s B Corp status further strengthens its commitment to the Better Business Act, a coalition of more than 2,900 businesses campaigning to change UK law so that all companies align their long-term interests with the wellbeing of society and the environment.
Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lomond: The Wholesale Food Co. to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies committed to changing how business operates and proving that business can truly be a force for good. We are confident that Lomond Wholesale will be a fantastic addition to this community and will continue to drive meaningful change.”
